Men’s grooming & styling insights with Gillette style expert and GQ style correspondent, Brett Fahlgren.

More men are realizing their skin is sensitive and are looking for a grooming regimen that fits their needs. What advice do you have for a man with sensitive skin?

It’s important for men with sensitive skin to update their grooming regimen to include products that are designed specifically for sensitive skin. Take Gillette Fusion Power MVP for example, it has proven performance on sensitive skin and has recently been awarded the DRP seal and is recommended by the Dermatology Review Panel. To explain further, The Dermatology Review Panel™, is a division of DRP Dermatology Inc. and was formed to provide an independent dermatologists’ review of non-prescription skincare products.

Guys should try Fusion Power MVP with Gillette Fusion HydraGel’s new Pure & Sensitive formula; the two working together will help give men with sensitive skin a close and comfortable shave.

When it comes to facial cleansers guys should look for one that works for their particular skin type. Regular soap unfortunately won’t do the trick. Men with dry skin should use products that contain natural moisturizers, while men with oily skin should focus on products that help neutralize oily build up.

In the spring and summer use a face moisturizer with built-in sunscreen. Hydrate the entire surface of your skin, in particular the areas under your eyes. This is one of the first places to show signs of aging.

Men seem to have a variety of hairstyles to choose from, what looks good on men and how can guys get the look?

Try changing your hairstyle and go shorter with a side part —it’s a throwback hairstyle that leaves a sharp and sophisticated impression. Get the look by going tight on the sides and back with a little longer on the top and hold it all in place with Gillette Power Gel. This new, more streamlined hairstyle works perfectly with an updated, pared down spring wardrobe. Remember to always go for hairstyles that suit your face and features. Just because the faux hawk might be in style one season, it doesn’t mean a man with a long face should wear it.

How would you describe what a confident man looks like?

Men who are confident carry themselves a certain way. Their style is effortless and they have resolve in everything they do. A man who has great style but looks like he isn’t trying too hard shows confidence. Oftentimes it’s the attention to detail that will set him apart: well shined shoes and a crisp white pocket square that adds the perfect finishing touch. These are the small things that add up and give a positive impression. More importantly, the way he openly and honestly engages the people in his life and how comfortable he is with himself is what sets him apart.

What's the one fashion item you can't live without?

I never leave home without a briefcase or medium size duffel/tote bag. Both give a nod to tradition and show a serious, professional side while helping to bring your look together. Definitely worth the upgrade from a backpack! For a more streamlined approach, an attaché case is the perfect accessory for trips to the office. Stash your cell phone, wallet and keys and keep your trousers free of bulky items.
