According to a recent survey by Gillette, 57 per cent* of Canadian men claim to have sensitive skin, yet there is no uniform definition of what sensitive skin is. “Sensitive skin can mean different things to different people” says leading Dermatologist and Gillette consultant, Dr. Vince Bertucci, “Symptoms can include tingling or tightening of the skin without visible signs but more often than not, it’s just a feeling; something difficult to measure and difficult to treat.”

Sensitive skin treatment options can vary depending on the severity of the case – from seeking consultation with a dermatologist to making informed decisions while in the grooming aisle. Shoppers can select products that have been reviewed and recommended by Dermatologists by looking for the DRP seal; it’s the seal applied to products that pass rigorous testing by Canada’s Dermatology Review PanelTM (DRP), a division of DRP Dermatology Inc.

Earning the seal is no easy task; the product applicants are evaluated in a two-step process that can take up to 90 days. The first step is blind – with robust, clinical data. In the second, product claims, branding and the product information are revealed. The resulting product submission can be the size of a phone book!

* A national sample of Canadian consumers was randomly selected from TNS Canada’s Internet research panel and invited to complete an online survey. In total, 2,363 consumers completed the questionnaire between March 3 to March 7 and March 10 to 14, 2011.
